such as congregate meal sites (nutrition sites), community/senior centers, and grocery
and general shopping. The service is a door-to-door, and is provided in accessible
vehicles. Medical trips are not provided. The fare is $0.50/one-way for nutrition,

The Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP)
Driver Escort Service - provides medical rides to adults aged 60 and over.
The service is door-through-door, and drivers will assist passengers in getting
to the correct location within the clinic or hospital. Rides are provided in the
volunteers' own cars and are usually not handicapped accessible. These are individual
rides. The service area is all of Dane County. Donations are accepted but no one
is denied service because of an inability to pay. To apply in the City of Madison,
call RSVP at (608) 238-7787. To apply outside of the Madison area, call your local
senior service organization. Find your local senior services.
The Older Adult Transportation Assistance Program
- serves rural adults aged 60 and over who live in their own homes or apartments.
The program provides rides to appointments and services which enhance older adults'
ability to remain independent and in their own homes. The service is door-to-door,
and passengers are assisted with curbs and stairs. Vehicles are accessible. This
is an individualized service. Service area is all of Dane County. Passenger co-pay
is based on ability to pay. To apply, call Dane County Department of Human Services
at (608) 242-6486. Funding for this program is limited, and only rides which are
not covered by other funding or ride programs are eligible.
The Caregiver Transportation Assistance Program
- provides services for persons caring for older adults, or for grandparents raising
children. The caregiver does not have to be over 60 to be eligible. Rides are given
to caregivers or to the older person for whom they are caring. Caregivers receive
rides to services such as support groups, workshops, or counseling, which enhance
their ability to continue to provide care. Rides can be provided to respite care
for the care-receiver. The service area is all of Dane County. There is no co-pay
for these rides. To apply, call Dane County Department of Human Services
at (608) 224-3668.
