The following information is provided as a service of the Planning and Evaluation Unit of the Dane County Department of Human Services. This includes links to internally prepared documents, as well as, links to external sources of data that may be of interest.

Annual Juvenile Court Report - Annually the Juvenile Court Program provides a report relating to juveniles who are referred to and/or placed in the various programs in Dane County. In addition, the Annual Report includes information related to the number and types of offenses referred to the court.

BadgerCare Enrollment Statistics - This State web site provides current BadgerCare enrollment by category statistics.

Child Abuse and Neglect (Wisconsin) - This State web site provides information and historical trends of child abuse and neglect data for Wisconsin and its counties.

Child Welfare - In order to help States achieve positive outcomes for children and families, the Children's Bureau monitors State child welfare services through the Child and Family Services Reviews (CFSRs), Title IV-E Foster Care Eligibility Reviews, the Adoption and Foster Care Analysis and Reporting System (AFCARS), and the Statewide Automated Child Welfare Information System (SACWIS) Assessment Reviews. This federal site provides links to the results of those reviews.

Community Coordinated Child Care - This link is to the 4Cs website that provides links to a number of on-line publications regarding child care including such items as rates, children in care, status of providers, etc.

Crime and Arrest Data - This link is to the State Office of Justice Assistance. This provides further links to annual state and local data on crime and arrests, adult jail populations, drug arrests, and sexual assaults in Wisconsin.

DataPlace - DataPlace is a KnowledgePlex(R) initiative sponsored by the Fannie Mae Foundation. KnowledgePlex(R) is an online resource serving affordable housing and community development professionals. DataPlace aims to be your one-stop source for housing and demographic data about your community, your region, and the nation. The site not only assembles a variety of data sets from multiple sources, but it also provides tools and guides to assist you in analyzing, interpreting, and applying the data so you can make more informed decisions.

Dane County Population Profiles

African-Americans in Dane County - This paper prepared by Neil Gleason of the Department of Human Services provides a profile of the African-American population looking at such factors as demographics, poverty, education, and juvenile delinquency.

Asian People in Dane County - This paper prepared by Neil Gleason of the Department of Human Services provides a profile of the diverse Asian population and some of its characteristics.

Dane County Population Trends - This paper prepared by Neil Gleason of the Department of Human Services provides a look at Dane County's expected population trends through 2010.

Demographic Services Center - This link to the State Demographic Services Center provides total population estimates for all Wisconsin towns, villages, and cities. In addition, the Center develops population projections by age and sex for the counties, population projections of total populations for all municipalities, and estimates of total housing units and households for all counties. Links are provided to U.S. Census Bureau data.

Hispanic People in Dane County - This paper prepared by Neil Gleason of the Department of Human Services provides a profile of the Hispanic/Latino population looking at such factors as demographics, immigration, educational level, and language proficiency.

Department of Transportation - This site provides links to a wide variety of reports available through the Wisconsin Department of Transportation. Includes traffic crash, alcohol crash facts, etc.

FoodShare Wisconsin - This State web site provides raw and summary data on FoodShare case counts, recipients, and benefits by County and State of Wisconsin.

Health Statistics (Wisconsin and by County) - This is a link to the State web site that provides links to a wide range of health related statistics. Data covers such topics as:

  • Cancer - annual reports on cancer incidence and mortality; summary tables on cancer incidence, death, risk factors, and screening; reports on breast, lung, colorectal and prostate cancer, and more.
  • Health Care Charges in Wisconsin - information about health care charges for common outpatient surgeries and hospitalizations.
  • Health Care Providers - home health agencies and patients; hospital facility information; hospital inpatient information; nursing homes and residents; and other health care providers.
  • Health Insurance Status - estimates of the number and percent without health insurance; current insurance status and insurance status over the past year; kinds of health insurance coverage (public and private); results of research on the uninsured.
  • Health Surveys - Behavioral Risk Factor Survey - estimates of risk factors (such as smoking) and use of preventive health screening (such as mammograms) among adults. Family Health Survey of estimates of health status, chronic disease prevalence, activity limitations, and other factors related to health among Wisconsin people of all ages.
  • Local Data - health information for counties, cities, and regions in Wisconsin.
  • Minority Health - statistics and other information about the health of African-American, American Indian, Asian, and Hispanic/Latino populations in Wisconsin.
  • Oral Health - information about oral health in Wisconsin among children and other populations, based on data from screening surveys.

Impact Reports - Impact Reports are reports to the community prepared by the United Way of Dane County. These address special populations and areas of concern.

Kids Count - KIDS COUNT, a project of the Annie E. Casey Foundation, is a national and state-by-state effort to track the status of children in the U.S. By providing policymakers and citizens with benchmarks of child well-being, KIDS COUNT seeks to enrich local, state, and national discussions concerning ways to secure better futures for all children.

Medicaid Caseload Statistics (Wisconsin and counties) - This State of Wisconsin web site provides information about the number of individual Medicaid recipients who are eligible to receive services from Medicaid-certified providers.

Report of the Dane County Truancy Committee

Right Start - State-level data on birth outcomes are part of an easy-to-use, powerful online database, "State Level Data Online", which allows users to generate custom graphs, maps, ranked lists, and state-by-state profiles; or download the entrie data set as delimited text files. Data for cities are also available in pdf form.

SAMHSA National Outcome Measures - This site shows some of the work of the partnership among the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), the States (including the District of Columbia), and SAMHSA grantees to implement the National Outcomes Measures (NOMs) for prevention and treatment of substance use and/or mental disorders. The NOMs we have defined embody meaningful, real life outcomes for people who are striving to attain and sustain recovery; build resilience; and work, learn, live and participate fully in their communities. Provides national and State profiles.

Substance Abuse and Mental Health Statistics - The site provides national data on alcohol, tobacco, marijuana, and other drug abuse.

Wisconsin Information Network for Successful Schools (WINSS) - This electronic resource has been created to help educators, parents and community members who have an interest in educating the hearts and minds of all children. The Standards and Assessment, Data Analysis, Continuous School Improvement and Best Practices section guide users to key local, state and national information about succes in education as found on the DPI Web site and other valuable resources. Check out the Data Analysis section.

WISKIDS Count - The Wisconsin Council on Children and Families has partnered with the Annie E. Casey Foundation to give interactive access to many of the WISKIDS Count indicators that appear in their publications. Through the CLICKS system, it is possible to access data, create maps and rank counties by indicator.
