The Dane County Department of Human Services employs an Ombudsman whose role it is to help our customers connect to needed services. This includes services that the department provides, as well as services provided by the many agencies the department funds. The Ombudsman also acts as the client rights specialist for department customers who have disputes over certain benefits and/or services.

Confidentiality and Privacy Issues: Services provided by the Dane County Department of Human Services are subject to a number of provisions to protect the confidentiality and privacy of customers or others who may have contact with the Department. Copies of our general Medical Privacy Notice, which outlines how medical information about you may be used and disclosed by our department, are available below

This is the general notice for the Department. There is a more specific notice for the Badger Prairie Health Care Center.

Services of the Ombudsman are provided to all customers who need them and request them.

No formal application is required.

The Ombudsman works as a liaison with county case managers to ensure that people are getting appropriate services from HMOs. They help consumers with the HMO grievance process and procedures. This is especially the case for our customers on Medical Assistance (see the link below). The Ombudsman also helps people access appropriate medically necessary services and advises on continuity of care issues.

The Ombudsman also functions as the client rights specialist in our Adult Community Services Division when individuals have disputes or complaints about certain benefits and services related to in-patient and residential services and other community based services. The Ombudsman can also help customers to resolve W-2, Medicaid and other public assistance related problems. Providing information regarding services, advocacy and programs is a typical role our Ombudsman plays.

Assistance from the Dane County Department of Human Services Ombudsman is provided at no charge.

Customers of Medicaid HMO's can access a list of advocates who can assist them with service issues
