What's New at the Dane County Department of Human Services

Recovery Dane Mental Health Information Service

Recovery Dane is an adult mental health information and referral center that opened in January 2011. It replaces New Directions Information Center. Recovery Dane will provide callers with information about the human service delivery system and community resources. Recovery Dane is coordinating a variety of groups for consumers and is taking a lead in the development of certified peer specialists. Recovery Dane can be reached at 608-237-1661.

Here is information on groups and classes currently offered by Recovery Dane. Anyone in Dane County is welcome to come. The groups are free. There may be charges for outings. Everyone is welcome.

Peer Specialist Support

Wednesdays 10:30 am – 12:00 pm (5/25, 6/22, 7/20, 8/24, 9/21, 10/19, 11/16, 12/14/2011)

In this group it is our intention to support Peer Specialist's already working within the community or people who are interested in becoming Peer Specialists. Our discussion will include: lessons learned, taking Recovery into the workplace, problem solving unique boundary issues, and so much more! Coping With Anxiety

The focus of the group is to develop coping skills to empower each member in their struggle with anxiety. Together we will help each member develop a wellness plan. Everyone is welcome, registration is not necessary. We look forward to seeing you!

Men and Mental Illness

Opening June 2011

A Men's group that will focus on social bonding for men who are struggling with mental illness. This group will include discussion on challenges, lessons learned, and coping skills. There will also be low cost social outings including playing pool, bowling, miniature golf, and other activities. There is not a charge for the group. However, each member will need to provide money for activity and food and their own transportation. Each outing will not exceed $10.00.
